First FRCC Meet Wasdale Head Easter 1907

First FRCC Meet Wasdale Head Easter 1907

The Club has a large collection of administrative and other records which date from its formation in 1906 and these form an important source of information  for anyone interested in the development of mountaineering in the Lake District. This documentary archive is kept at the Cumbria Records Office, County Offices, Kendal,Cumbria, LA9 4RQ, phone 01539 773540 (general) 773539 (search room) . These may be consulted by appointment during normal working hours. Certain financial and committee minutes may be examined only with written permission of the Archivist. There is a copy of a catalogue of the contents available at the Records Office.

In addition we have an archive store on our premises in Langdale and this is used to house our photographic collection and our collection of mountaineering artifacts. These artifacts have been used recently in a number of exhibitions around the country and are available on loan to bone fide museums and exhibitions.

The Archivist welcoms offers of documents artifacts and photographs suitable for inclusion in our collection.

There are 4 main archive categories linked in the sub-menu in the left-hand column. They cover

  • Articles - significant articles about aspects of club life and history published elsewhere
  • FRCC Journal - facsimile scans of the complete early Journals (to which more volumes will be added over time)
  • Photographs - particularly from early club life and early climbing (again, more photos will be added over time)
  • Other document records about the club or about climbing in the Lake District
