John Gordon Bean, Lance Corporal 241503, 1/6th Battalion King’s (Liverpool) Regiment was killed in action on 31 July 1917 at the age of 34.
He is named on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
Son of John and Jessie, husband of Mary Alice, he lived at 35 Shrewsbury Road Oxton Birkenhead and was employed as a cotton salesman.
The 1/6th King’s were part of the 55th (West Lancashire) Division. Bean was killed during a German counter-attack around Border House and Somme farm during the Battle of Pilkem Ridge, part of the Third Battle of Ypres. The casualties suffered by this division between 31 July and 3 August 1917 were 3,447 officers and men.
