William Henry Bright Gross was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, The Queens (Royal West Surrey Regiment) when he was killed in action on 3 November 1916. He was 26 years old.
He is named on the Thiepval Memorial.
Son of George and Emma, 106 Greengate Street, Barrow in Furness. The 1911 census shows him as Assistant Certificated teacher. He was killed in action in an attack on “Boritska” trench, South East of Ginchy during the final stages of the Battle of the Somme.
