Hartley, Edmund was a Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 18 May 1918 at the age of 23.
He is buried in Mont Bernanchon British Cemetery, Gonnehem.
Son of William and Gertrude,“Hoarstones” Fence, Near Burnley. Husband of Barbara. His father was a farmer and solicitor, the 1911 census shows Edmund as a boarder at Harrow. The Battalion war diary shows him killed whilst in charge of a working party on the front line near L’Ecleme , about 5 km East of Lillers in Northern France
