Stanley Fearns Jeffcoat, (Mentioned In Dispatches) 2nd Lieutenant, 22nd Battalion Royal Fusiliers. Killed in action on 29 April 1917, aged 26.
He is buried in Roclincourt Military Cemetery.
The 1911 census shows him living at “Hillside”, Brown Edge Buxton.
The Official History records that, during the fighting around Oppy, part of the Battle of Arras “Lt Jeffcoat performed a magnificent feat ; with a small party of men bombed his way down some 400 yards of front line until he got his men in touch with the 63rd Division. Lt Jeffcoat whose gallantry and tactical sense had so much contributed to the success gained, was then mortally wounded”.
