Route:Salvation
Length:60m
Grade:VI,8
Crag:Neckband Crag - Langdale
Climbers:Mark Thomas - Backrope Solo
Date climbed:Friday 17th March 2006
Description:Start 1m right of the arete of Flying Blind in a shallow steep groove coming out from the lowest part of the buttress, not the 1st groove right. Climb this on tiny hooks and torques to place first gear after 5m on the left - good nut. continue to the bottom of a steep vegetated corner crack, take a deep breath and climb it. Good protection but hard to place. Pull out of the top and rest on a small round ledge.move up and left on small ledges to beneath 3 cracks in the top wall, climb the 2 that form a diamond shape on the left, finish on a big snowy ledge and spike belay.Continue meandering to the top. - Due to the way the route was climbed i.e. backrope, solo, with a friend 0 and nut 1 ground anchor, the route felt serious and thus a grade for a belayed climber is hard to judge. But the moves felt scottish 7 and possibly 8. the route is worth 1 star.
