Route: Mad Dogs & Englishmen
Length:
Grade:
Crag: Gillercoombe
Climbers: Trevor Langhorne & Jon Wright
Date climbed:
29 April
Description:
This one seemed tough for VS and we thought the pitch grades were a bit out; but it is early in the season! We thought the pitch grades were more like p1 4a max, p2 5a p3 4b p4 5a p5 less than 4a. We suggest an overall grade of HVS (low in grade) because p2 & p4 are both committing and require you to head away from the security of gear! A worthwhile route with good rock but the usual flaw of this crag of some easier sections which probably mean it is only worth *. The top pitch while being bold was rather pointless and "climb anywhere" and it may be pleasanter to finish up the buttress which is not much lower in standard.
