Route:Dark Noises
Length:50m
Grade:HVS
Crag:Round How Buttermere p 53
Climbers:BJ Clarke, Sue Greenwood
Date climbed:10.05.06
Description:30 metres right of "Chimney Route" the main (frowning) wall of the crag starts in earnest. It is riven by 3 impressive, unclimbed crack-lines (all very dirty- unfortunately). This route takes the cleanest line up the left side of the wall and has negligible protection; hence the strange grade! Start 30 metres right of "Chimney Route", and 25 metres down and left of "Central Route", directly below the left-hand and thinnest crack-line.
1 10m. Easy slabs lead to a flake belay in a small corner.
2 40m (4b). Move up right for 3 metres, then back left across a ramp to reach shelves and a ledge below a steep wall. Step left, and climb a shallow groove and wall to a small ledge and a thin vertical crack (first protection- tiny). Continue up easier slabs to reach medium/small Friend belays in a cleaned slanting crack well back to the right.
