The last comprehensive guidebook to North Cumbrian Limestone, the Border area, and the Eden Valley, was North of England Rock Climbs by Stewart Wilson (Cordee 1992). It has been out of print for several years now.
It is intended to include those of these areas that lie within Cumbria in the next FRCC Eastern Crags guide, but this is not expected to go into print until 2008 at the earliest.
With the blessing of Stewart Wilson, the FRCC has now made current descriptions for these crags available on the internet. As climbs are checked and descriptions revised, then it is hoped to update the information. Any new routes recorded since the 1992 guide have also been included.
Please be aware that some of the access information given is over ten years old and may well be inaccurate.

| A Plea for Photographs |
| Photos of crags in good light in summer are needed for the next edition of this guide. Please contact the FRCC Guidebook Photographs Editor if you think you have any such photos (in any format). Needless to say any good action photos would also be well received - for these we need to know: crag, route, grade, pitch, name of climber, name of photographer. You don't get paid I'm afraid, but you will get a free guidebook if we use any of your pictures! |

Disclaimer: Climbing is a dangerous pastime that can seriously damage your health! Details of climbs recorded in these webpages, together with their grades, reference to in-situ or natural protection, and locations, are made in good faith having been compiled from first ascent descriptions and old guidebook informatin. Very few of them have been checked recently for accuracy, and descriptions, grades, and, above all, stars, should be treated with extreme caution. Unfortunately climbs can change; holds fall off, rock becomes dirty, in-situ gear deteriorates or disappears. Even a minor alteration can have a dramatic effect on the grade or seriousness of a route. It is therefore essential that climbers judge the condition of any route before committing themselves. The contents of this website are believed to be correct. However, neither the FRCC nor its members and their friends involved with its production, can be held responsible for any omissions or mistakes, nor liable for any personal or third party injuries or damage, howsoever caused, arising from its use. In this claims-conscious age, climbers are recommended to obtain suitable insurance cover. The BMC now provides third party liability cover for members and members of affiliated clubs.
Please be aware that some of the access information given is also over ten years old and may well be inaccurate - if any problems are encountered, please behave with decorum and notify the BMC.
The information on these pages is maintained by Stephen Reid (FRCC Guide Books Editor) to whom all new routes and comments should be sent. In addition, for new routes and comments in this area, please forward information to Ron Kenyon and Stew Wilson who are currently writing the new guide. If you have a photograph or diagram of interest, please email it as a low volume attachment and it too can be included.
