Deerest 45 m HVS ★★
18-Jul-2017, Mandy Glanvill, Julie Carter

Start at the left edge of the toe of the slab, as for Botchergate Glare. Climb this and continue directly up a thin crack  heading for a V groove in the overlap. Up the V groove and continue in a straight line to the headwall. Take the steep corner crack and continue on the upper slab to the top.

Red Line: Deerest HVS 5a

Blue Line: The Bothergate Glare HVS 5a

Yellow Line: Borrowdale Stare VS 4b

Mandy Glanvill – First Ascent of Deerest. “I found it very thin slab climbing, could be E1 or hard HVS. I had a few Micro-cams and on the crux popped one on the crack to the right at the third height small overlap”.

  1. looks identical to our route “The Bothergate Glare”, we certainly didn’t step right at those two patches of heather, that would bring you very close to the route up the arête.

  2. Looks like the way we went with Guy Widdowson repeating ‘Botchergate Glare’ earlier this Summer. Pretty much straight up from where the red and blue marked lines diverge and then converge. In truth you can climb anywhere on the slab at a similar grade
