Following the rockfall, in September 2025, in the area of the crux (pitch 2) of The Shroud there is still concern about the stability of the rock in that area. It seems that the missing block is the middle of three that you used to pull up on directly above the belay (where you definitely wouldn’t want to be at the moment) and at least one of the blocks is still in place – waiting to go! This route, as described in current guidebooks, is definitely unsafe.
So for the time being and until more is known about this area climbers are advised to avoid this area entirely, this includes the previously suggested Jubilee Grooves based alternative to The Shroud p2 and the routes starting just to the right of The Shroud: Grand Alliance, Up for Grabs and Tristar as a belayer on the ground below any of these routes may be in the line of fire should any more rock come down as there is no way of predicting how a falling block will bounce.
