Canyoning Meet (based Raw Head)

Some further details/information on this weekend.

The weekend will have 2 activities, the Coniston mine trip one day and the Fischerplace Gill canyon the next.   We will  confirm which will run on which day nearer the time in case of bad weather. The canyon has 13 abseils, highest upto 20 x m drop, there are deep pools slides and jumps.

You must be able to swim, bring a wetsuit 5mm if poss, harness, whistle, helmet, old trainers or boots. Neoprene socks  and gloves if you have, fig 8 or similar abseil devise. Knee pads are good but not essential. I will provide ropes throw lines etc. Can hide day pack near the bottom of the route on the way up, ill have a dry tub for keys and wallets. Parking next to Thirlmere on RH side heading North before Castle Rock and the pub. Aprox time 4 hours top to bottom depending on group, size and ability.

Mine trip. 

Can be done as a through trip or return trip. Entrance near levers water Coniston, exit near to pump station below. Start at the top descending several pitches through the mine some ~25 m ish. A mixture of abseils, down climbs and fixed ropes wire cable’s. Very colourful rock formations and pools due to the copper minerals. Care must be taken for lose rock at the top of each pitch. Mostly dry route but will get wet feet on exit route.

Equipment

Harness, helmet, head torch, full harness if doing return trip plus a crawl and dumar. Wellies or old boots, old water proofs or splash suit. Petzel stop or fig 8 and prussack loop.

Trip 3-4 hrs one way top to bottom dependant on group size and ability, plus walk in and out.
