Dalwhinnie Rail Crossing

You may have read about the very abrupt decision by Network Rail to lock the gate across the line at Dalwhinnie, thus preventing access from there down Loch Ericht to Ben Alder etc.

Many outdoor organisations are protesting about this including Mountaineering Scotland on our behalf but you may wish to add your name as an individual to the petition below initiated by the Ramblers with support from many other outdoor organisations.

If you read about it, hill baggers do have an alternative some way to the south, but people in the village cannot now access some community trails directly, and guidebooks for the Ben Alder hills – such as our new Munros guide – all describe this route.

It’s bad for the villagers, and a worrying indication of Network Rail’s intentions for all such gated rail crossings across the country.

Here is info and the Ramblers petition.
