Summary: Meet with a difference – based loosely in our village and at our house with an evening BBQ. Importantly, organise your own accommodation with a bit of help from us.
Venue: In or near Ousby village, Eden Valley, Cumbria CA10 1PT – easy 9 miles / 12 minutes northeast of Penrith M6 J40.
Dates: August 20th to 22nd weekend – by all means make it a long weekend, we will be around! It’s the weekend before bank holiday so travel should be ok.
Activities. We live in Cumbria’s Eden Valley 2 miles off the A686 and 10 miles west of well known Dufton. On our doorstep is Cross Fell highest point in the Pennines, not far away are geologically fascinating High Cup Nick, Eden Valley climbing (bring your FRCC guidebook) and walking neighbouring Pennine hills. Unfortunately not MOD Warcop range access weekend so you can’t bag those four elusive Nuttal 2000’ peaks! Alternatively car/bike explore 1900’ Hartside pass and beyond via Alston into Weardale and northern Pennines. Visit NT Acorn Bank 5 miles away. Jump on the Settle Carlisle railway 3 miles away at Langwathby for one hour train along loveliest section via Mallerstang to Horton or Settle – you have 5 hours between trains so ample to eg climb Ingleborough or Pen Y Ghent.
Accommodation: Covid permitting we will have a few tents and camper vans at our house, but sorry to say these are already bagged by early bird bookers!

Look at website but don’t book!!!! Let us know nights required as we are co-ordinating direct via the owner; likely cost £20 camper van (any size with or without hookup) or £8 per person for tent (no hookup). If too much interest, owner will hopefully open another field, but suggest you book with us as soon as possible to be certain of a pitch.
Otherwise book accommodation yourselves eg other campsites further afield, local b&b’s (can aim you at a few favourites), neighbouring pubs with accommodation, airbnb, booking.com. Closest FRCC huts Beetham 24 miles/40 mins or Salving 32 miles/50 mins.
Pub & Grub: Fox Inn owns the village campsite, 400 yds from our house – and they do good meals. Suggest meal (or takeaway fish’n chips if still doing that) there Friday night. Also pubs in neighbouring villages of Melmerby, Langwathby & Culgaith.
Nearest Store: Langwathby 3 miles has well stocked Nisa store, supermarkets Penrith.
BBQ at Ours: Sat or Sun depending on forecast – in our barn if both are wash-outs like last year! Bring and share – details later. We provide ample fridge space/oven etc.
Music. Although not an E (Entertainment) Meet, many will spend evenings at /in our house, so bring instruments, songs etc as music chez nous one night rules ok!
