Avoiding the detour left, mantle the quartz crack from where a long reach can place a small cam at the apex of the slab. Climb the left edge of the clean slab (crux) and move slightly right to an undercut hold to move up and finish on the cracked headwall of The Crystal Maze.
We did Crazy Maze yesterday. I wasn’t sure which way to go. the description seems to imply climbing the wall past (and above) the quartz band – at HVS. Angry Birds seems to go the same way.
I did not have the guide handy so went up the gangway on the left and place a huge rock at the right side of the overhang – but removed later with a cam placed above.
Should have had a go direct.
Angry Birds goes directly up the short triangular slab direct, without the step left into the ledge and over short overlap of crystal maze. My grade for Angry Birds was HVS 5C, E2 was a typo introduced later I believe. Route mostly as the crystal maze, just a little more direct.
