Medlayer on Raven, Thirlmere (page 145 in Eastern Crags and page 417 in Lake District Rock) is supposed to be a good combination of The Medlar and Relayer. However, the description in both current guides would suggest that Medlayer is exactly the same as pitch 1 of Relayer. The best way of climbing this good combo is to start as for The Medlar, climbing the wall behind the tree on superb pockets and edges to the ledge at the bottom of the groove; from here traverse out left to the rib, as for Relayer, and follow this to the top traverse of The Medlar. Great climbing all the way and worth the 3 stars. See other comment about the dodgy abseil tat.
