Route Feedback: Landslide on the Apiary Wall descent at St Bees
Posted by: Ron Kenyon, 08.11.2021

BEWARE: there has been a landside on the steep descent to the north of the lighthouse. The bolt belays and rope have been damaged and there is the potential for a lot more ground to move.

It is felt best to wait and see if the area stabilises over the winter. At the moment the best descent is the easier one further to the north, see Lakes Sport & Slate photo-plan on pages 256 – 7 and the description of the descents on page 258.

Another option is the descent to the south known as The Fishermans’ Steps although this is only suitable for those who are happy on steep, strenuous and exposed terrain;  see p268.

YOU SHOULD CHECK THE BMC REGIONAL ACCESS DATABASE (RAD) FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION.

St Bees is also covered in the Buttermere & St Bees guidebook. If using that guide by a complete coincidence the relevant photo-plan is also on pages 256 – 7 with the description on page 258!

The Fishermans’ Steps descent is described on page 282 with a photo-diagram on page 284.
