  1. I completed the Welsh 3000-ers in under 24 hours in August 1991 with Nigel Hillman (not an FRCC member) a few weeks after getting back from 3 weeks in the Alps – making the best use of our residual fitness. We started from Pen-y-Pass and finished at the end of the road into Cwm Eigiau where we had previously left a parked car.

I also completed the Cuillin Ridge in a day with Nigel in July 1984 in brilliant weather. We started from Glen Brittle at 4am and finished at the Sligachan Hotel at 10.30pm. This was my third attempt; the first two (both with late FRCC member Peter Fleming) were both abandoned due to bad weather.

  2. Digging back through my logbooks I unearthed this entry — Welsh 3000ers Circular completion, 1972 – June 24; together with another Karabiner MC member I started from the KMC Hut, Ty Powdwr heading for the Snowdon group, descent to Pen y Pass via Crib Goch, on over the Glyders and Tryfan to Ogwen, then out and back over the Carnedds, regaining Ogwen to finish over Y Garn and Elidir Fawr for final descent back to Ty Powdwr. Total elapsed time : 18hrs 30mins.
Further on in same logbook — Lakes 3000ers Circular completion, 1974 – June 29; a Karabiner MC meet from a base in Grasmere – walk started at 2:00pm on Saturday going west to the Scafells then north through Borrowdale to reach Keswick by 2:00am on Sunday, upSkiddaw and down to Thirlspot, up Helvellyn by 10:30am and back to Grasmere at 1:00pm Sunday.
I doubt if I could manage those times nowadays! But I’m still tackling other physically demanding outings at times (see recent FRCC Journals)
