Call for help – tree removal Raw Head

From Pete Farnell – Raw Head Warden

Two large trees have been felled and cut into rounds at Raw Head, one tree was windblown and the other was dead and leaning towards the gable end of the barn.

The wood is where the trees dropped into the farmers field at the other side of the stream to the hut, I would like some help to move the timber from the field to the area between the pine trees behind the cottage, where I will split the rounds into logs and stack them to dry to provide logs for the fires next winter.

It will be heavy manual work, but if we get sufficient people involved I’m sure we can get the timber moved. There will be no hut fees payable by those helping to move the wood. I’ll send out more details to those who sign up, prior to the event.

I’m planning on a date of the 9th and 10th of March to move the wood. Please email rawhead@frcc.co.uk if you are able to help.

  1. Not one to give out condescending praise, just need to put in writing how impressed I was with this working meet.
The amount of timber to be moved was quite daunting but the planning and guidance on the day made it an enjoyable and safely executed work out for all involved.
All the heavy moving was completed by early Saturday afternoon leaving the rest of the afternoon for splitting and stacking.
Certainly for me, the afternoon work had to be paced after double helpings of the excellent fare provided by the catering team.
