Pembrokeshire Meet: 16-21 August

Porthclais Farm campsite (SA62 6RR), just outside St David’s is ready to welcome us for the Pembrokeshire meet, 16th to 21st August.

This area was chosen because of the range of activities readily available to us. The site is idyllically situated directly above the climbing at Porthclais, with classics such as Red Wall and Dreamboat Annie. Gear up at your tent, then find a gap in the wall.

Porth y Ffynnon, Initiation Slabs and Craig Caerfai are in easy walking distance. Carreg y Barcud, (loads of routes around E1, plus some easier and some harder, is a short drive or cycle away) – and of course it is a short drive to the lovely Whitesands Bay, with numerous single and multi-pitch crags a short distance beyond the adjacent Porthmelgan Beach. This includes the granite (yes granite) Trywyn Llwyd.

Porthclais is a regular coasteering venue. The cycling around the area is very good. The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path forms the southern and western boundaries of the campsite. What’s not to like?

Tents are charged at £8 pppn, children under 5 free, children 5-12 £5 pcpn and dogs £2 pdpn.

Campervans are also charged at £8 pppn, but there is a minimum charge of £25 pn high season, so probably £12.50 pppn for most people.

There is no charge for awnings or gazebos.

There are no electric hook-ups, but there is a chemical disposal point.

The campsite is big and open, with amazing views over St Bride’s Bay and the Bristol Channel.

Thelma, who owns the site, is still a little concerned about Covid and has asked that we have one central point of contact, so please book through me tonyhalliwellmic@yahoo.co.uk There’s a 10% deposit or one night £8.00, whichever is the greater.

Get in contact with me, let me know how many are coming for how many nights and we’ll work out the deposit which you’ll need to send to me to make your booking.

During the stay, I’ll collect the balance from everyone (please, please, please make it easy for me by searching me out so that I don’t have to chase you) and you’ll need to bring old-fashioned printed paper (aka cash) with you. Do not forget this part!

Plus a pocket full of 50p pieces for the shower.
